What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Kurt is a loveable kid at heart. He is shy around new people, being more then used to those he meets being horrified, scared or disgusted by his appearance, but if someone is not bothered by it or happy to move past it he will quickly open up to being friendly, talkative, and cheerful. Kurt is a jokester, liking wisecracks, puns, practical jokes and light-hearted conversations, although he will not make such jokes at the expense of others or when it might cause people offence or upset them.
Kurt has a strong faith in the church, which drives a large amount of his life and his view on the world, he believes that the meek shall inherit the earth and it is his duty to helping those less fortunate then him as he is someone with powers and owes God proper use of the gifts. Kurt can not stand bullies, cruel men, or those who discriminate, having seen far too much of it to ever let it slide again.
He loves stories about heroes, especially ones about knights or pirates, and dreams of being a swashbuckling adventurer that saves the day. He looks up to Dr. Doom considerably, idolising the Monarch for saving his young life.
Kurt is very self conscious about his appearance. most people refer to him as demon or monster and it has led to self confidence issues and a belief everyone will see him as something to be feared or avoided at all costs, and that he will never really fit in anywhere. as a result he makes sure to wear clothes that include a hood so he can hide his blue skin, yellow eyes and strange face from the world.
History: The day Kurt was born could be considered a dramatic one. A certain man named Hitler was made chancellor of Germany setting in motion a whole host of problems for the world. Meanwhile, a man named Wagner was dealing with the shock that when his first child was born, his dear love had taken the child and seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth so promptly he could have sworn it was planned for....
Meanwhile, a woman was busy trying to figure out how to keep a child safe when his skin was blue, his eyes were bright yellow, and he resembled the generic image of a devil. Especially in a land gearing up faster and faster to single out those that were different. In the end, in the desperation that comes with having nowhere to go, she handed the child over to the church of a small village in eastern Germany. The Priest there, an old Man by the name of Peter, had had an uncle who had been able to talk to small birds, so he had been able to understand and feel compassion for a mutant. Before the Mother left, Father Peter promised he would take care of the child, causing his Mother to leave Kurt behind with a heavy heart.
Kurt grew up being taught from the start that it was not a good idea to be a well known part of the community. There was a culture around him of turning in your neighbour that Kurt was far too pure of heart to ever understand, but he at least recognised it existed.
Both Father Peter, and his deacon James were kind, good men. they taught Kurt to read and write, spent as much time as they could with him, and let him outside whenever they could. mostly at night and even then only amongst the confines of the graveyard, for fear the boy would be hurt by those who did not understand. Most of the time, Kurt was happy in his home of the rafters. as he grew, more and more Kurt swung from the rafters with practised ease. He got to know the villagers by watching them every Sunday, and would amuse himself with coming up with happy endings to whatever problems they were talking about after the service.
Naturally, to keep a young boy entertained, the two holy men found it was a good and fair idea to give him some books that were more entertainment based, and Kurt spent many a month reading and rereading stories about dashing heroes and brave knights.
By this time, there was enough close calls that a rumour the church was haunted by some shadowy demonic force was alive and well in the town. So when The Nazi's came through looking for "undesirables" it was only the soldiers utter disregard for such a myth that prevented Kurt from being found. But on that day, hiding in the roof watching men with guns idly threaten a sweet old man, Kurt understood both fear, and what evil looked like for the first time.
Then the war came, and even though many of the men in the village went off to fight, Kurt hoped they would loose. he prayed that somehow an end to the war that would leave as few dead on all sides as possible would come, but for that he never received a reply. The war swept on until Latverian and Russian troops pushed through Eastern Europe and were on the doorstep of German borders. The Nazi's were falling back and using the town as a "base" when two of the German troops, clearly deciding they were going to desert with whatever valuables they could carry, the gold Cross that stood on the altar being a prime example. Father Peter tried to stop them, and was almost shot. Kurt teleported for the first time in his life at 12, to land on the shoulders of one of the men, throwing him off balance and to the floor. Father Peter reacted on pure survival instinct, picked up the gun and fired twice, shooting both of the Soldiers in the chest and killing them.
When the rest of the troops came to the sound of gunfire, Kurt was once again hiding, but Father Peter had embraced him and told him that he must not try to save him again. at the time, Kurt thought that the Old man was simply telling the Men the truth, and that the Troops killed him because they thought it an excuse made up on the fly to justify his killing of two of their number. It was only later it occurred to him that if Peter had been a man more determined to live, all he would have had to do was point up at the blue monster staring down and they would have never even considered an old man to be at fault with such a scapegoat.
It seems the obvious choice, to protect a young child, but to not say anything when many angry men at the prime of their life aim guns at you is a very brave thing. And he died bravely indeed.
After that, Kurt truly did feel nothing but relief when Germany fell and a man that went by Doom was the one to take Kurt homeland. Deacon James was now the Priest by necessity, and had been shocked when it was brought to his attention Doom himself was touring the country he had just acquired and would be briefly stopping in the Village that night.
Kurt and James spent the entire day frantically trying to make the Church as presentable as possible for if such an important figure might visit the villages only real landmark. It was highly possible but with so little warning they both hoped not. in fact they were so busy, they didn't notice a couple of the ladies from town come in to offer help in said cleaning until they were screaming at the sight of a demon with a "spear" (an old wooden broom) in the middle of the church.
The next twenty minutes were a blur. panic on all sides. crashes. men showing up with torches. Father James trying to bring order and being ignored. they set fire to the church to try and smoke Kurt out, and as he leapt out of the window to avoid burning to death, Someone managed to hit Kurt in the head with a thrown rock. they dragged him to the center of town, planning to kill the freak before Lord Doom could arrive and see.
Kurt's life was saved by a week of good weather, as Doom's convoy made far better time then anyone had expected. When Doctor Doom arrived it was obvious to him this was little more then hysterics and intolerance almost damning a child. This was the evil he had fought a bloody war to stop, the destruction of all who were different. Kurt was freed in short order, those villagers who had planned to murder him arrested. Doom took Kurt aside and managed to calm the boy down. For the rest of his life Kurt was spellbound watching this man. Dressed in green, and a suit of armour, bristling with power, both superhuman and political, someone arriving in the nick of time to save the day and right wrongs. Kurt had found his hero to look up to.
Germany was Dooms land now, and he proved it in short order. Before he left he made sure enough money would be given to not only rebuild but improve the church (Father James had survived with only the lightest burns), those households now empty due to the occupants arrests were used to house German people who had nowhere else to go, and it was made clear to all that Kurt was as much a citizen as any of them, and that Doctor Doom himself wanted the boy to be able to live his life free of persecution.
Life was so much better for Kurt after that, he had the freedom to walk in day light anywhere he wanted, he could finally make friends with the other children, many of whom were wary until they learned he could give them "Bamf rides" across town. and it was very common for children to come home smelling of sulphur and brimstone. As terrifying as that night was, it has almost been worth it just for Kurt to finally start feeling like the village is his home not just the church.
Other: None.
