What is this?
Strike A Match is a text-based rpg that involves characters from both the Marvel and DC Comic universes and is set in the late 1940’s post-war era.
How do I play?
Easy, just create an account, use the application template to create your character (whether canon or original), and then post it in the Application section. Once your application has been accepted, it will be moved into the Database section. If you are using a real person as the face of your character, state who it is in the Face Claim post. After that, you can start posting.
I only follow one comic universe but not the other. Is this okay?
Yes, we do not judge what universe you follow. You can play solely Marvel, solely DC, or you can do a mix of both. We do not require that you are familiar with both universes. We’re easy going like that.
Can I play any pulp character that would fit in this era, or is this site solely Marvel and DC oriented?
We do allow other era-appropriate, or pulp style, characters that are not Marvel and DC to be played. If you're unsure, just ask.
Do I have to use a real person as a face for my character?
Absolutely not, that is completely optional. Some players like to use real people, others prefer the comic book look. Honestly, it’s up to you.
I see that some people have chosen to make their character dialogue a different color from the regular text, why? Do I need to do this?
No, you do not. This is an option thing some players do in order to make reading dialogue easier and to distinguish them from any odd NPCs that may be in the scene, like henchmen, police, or bystanders. Coloring your dialogue is not a requirement.
Do I need to follow comic book canon for my character?
No, this is set in an alternate reality. You can (and in some cases, probably should) alter a character’s backstory in order to make them work for the game. You can make your character however you want, but try to use common sense and make it appropriate for the time period.
I want to play this character, but I’m not going to be able to post an application right away. What can I do to reserve that character?
Simple, just post a reply in the Taken Canons thread (located in the Application section) asking that you’d like to reserve or put on hold the character you’re interested in. We will hold the character for a limited amount of time.
Do I need to have my application finished and nice looking before posting it?
Nope, you can post it as a Work In Progress. Just make sure to put (WIP) in the thread title while you’re working on it and remove it when you have finished so the admins know it is okay to look at.
Okay, my character has been accepted, but I don’t know how or where to start. Help?
Firstly, don’t worry. If you are nervous about starting something or have no clue where to begin, this is why there is the Plot Page section. This section lets you basically have your own little post saying ‘hey, I’m here, I can do X and I would love to work with Y. Hit me up if you’re interested.’ Amazingly enough, this does work and it helps promotes ideas and potential plot points.
Naturally, the other option is just jumping in headfirst and creating a post. We have plenty of areas in game that people can start in. Think about how characters are introduced in television series or in movies. They are always doing something that set them as a character even if it is as simple as being in a café enjoying a cup of coffee to start their day off.
I would LOVE to see someone play all these different characters!
Cool! That’s why we have the Wanted ads section. Post a list of who you’d like to see played and maybe someone who is trying to figure out characters will take up the request.
Hey, I have a friend or know a person who I think would like to play this game. Can I ask them to join?
Yes! Absolutely, yes! If you know someone who might like this site, tell them about it and invite them over. We always welcome more members.
