Precognition - Destiny possess the psionic power of precognition: the ability to perceive in her mind's eye the events of possible futures. Although she is blind, Destiny can mentally scan the probability spectrum of alternate futures and mentally perceive sounds and sights of events that distinguish them. By concentrating she can focus on only the most probable alternate futures. The accuracy of Destiny’s ability to foresee future events decreases in direct proportion to the number of alternate futures to scan. She can comfortably scan the alternate futures that exist from one second away up until those that exist fifteen minutes away. Hence, she can be 97% accurate in her predictions of the future ten seconds away or less. Despite the limited extent to her certainty, her long-range scanning can be of great use in the early detection of possible random factors that could disrupt her to her partners’ plans. The more likely that a particular alternate future would manifest itself in her reality, the clearer and more distinct her mental impression of it would be. Less likely alternate futures would appear hazy and indistinct. If she left her precognitive perceptions fully open, she would "see" an overlapping succession of images drift in and out of focus as probabilities shifted and further elements transpired. By active participation in the events around her, she can help shift the probabilities toward desired ends. Her personal phenomenal field, that area with which she can not scan the future for events that might take place on the other side of the world or even a mile away.
Extended Lifespan - Destiny has a mutation that also has likely extended her lifespan greatly, since she is older than she appears.
Abilities: Due to her precognitive abilities, she can be quite an accurate marksman if she chooses to be. She is also a talented archivist, having written down past visions and prophecies before going totally blind.
Weapons: Her walking stick and a crossbow.
Flaws/Weaknesses: Irene is legally blind. She also has the strength, speed and stamina of a woman in her seventies.
What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Irene is an interesting woman. Being a seventy year old woman, she has seen a lifetime’s worth of things and more so, thanks to her powers. She is an intelligent woman, who much of the time needs to behave in a less knowing manner. It’s near impossible to surprise someone who can see the future. When she was younger, she would try to use her abilities in order to save others or warn them of impending doom. However, much of the time, she was ignored or not believe, not unlike past famous seers. Due to that, Irene developed an outlook that was not necessarily cynical or dreary, but certainly more realistic. As a result, she has a dry sense of humor which can turn more towards gallows humor. Her tongue is also sharp, and she is not above putting people in their place if need be.
However, her powers have also allowed her to quickly learn who she can trust and who she can’t, and those sort of people she is always faithful to. Mystique is one of those people, but whereas Mystique is the type to use the prophetic powers to further her own goals, and Irene did attempt to do just that when she was younger, it was Irene who first realized the bigger the goal, the harder it is to change the future. Small steps and small goals are easier, and because of that Irene has managed to live rather comfortably, while making extensive notes on the visions she cannot change.
One thing to note, it is never wise to piss off Irene because she will pay you back, and in rather unique ways. On occasion Mystique was on the receiving end of these emotional tiffs. Nothing serious would ever befall her, but there were moments when Irene would “forget” to pull her love back from the sidewalk as a car would speed by, splashing mud and water on the woman. Childish things, really, but it’s knowing the little things that make Irene happy. So be careful if you say something and see the old, blind woman smirk.
History: Irene Adler was born into a wealthy family in Salzburg, Austria in the mid 19th century. When her mutant power developed in adolescence, she was more skilled at predicting near-future events that concerned her direct environment, but her powers started to overwhelm her. Irene was flooded with visions of the near and far future and she spent over a year chronicling these visions, resulting in thirteen volumes of prophecies that extended to the early 21st century.
Haunted by the disturbing images she had seen and not entirely understood, as well as having her eyesight beginning to fade as a result of her powers, she sought help. It was then, in the 1880's, that she first met Raven Darkholme, the mutant who would later be known as Mystique. At the time, Raven was working as a male detective. Irene and Raven teamed up to not only unlock the meaning of Irene's prophecies, but also prevent the most terrifying predictions from coming true. The two women quickly became life-long friends and lovers. Together they were determined to change the world. Their combination of abilities enabled easy personal gain, but they realized that changing the future would be difficult and would require social engineering.
At one point, the two of them parted ways, only for them to be reunited during the first World War. Mystique was adamant about protecting and helping a lover by the name of Rothchild during the war and, with Irene's help, they made it possible for the man to return home to his family, with Mystique following him once more. Irene protested, adamant about Mystique's future leading to pain and torture, camps and experimentation. Her warnings falling on deaf ears, there was nothing Irene could do as she was left alone once more.
With the second world war looming over the horizon, Irene did the one thing she hated most; she ran. Precognition was one thing, but she couldn't do anything without help and allies. So she fled to America with her journals and her predictions, which she watched blossom into horrific truths, none of which she could stop. She wept openly when reports came in from the news of the camps that were discovered in Germany and Austria, hoping that Mystique had escaped that fate. She never looked for that line of visions, terrified over what she may see.
Other: Although she uses a blind walking cane in public, Irene can focus her powers enough in private that she doesn't need to use her cane, essentially 'seeing' where she's going around her home.
