Powers:
Superhuman Strength: While her uppermost strength level has never been properly documented, Jessica has shown that she has strength enough to lift a two ton police car with no discernible effort and toss it a short distance at approaching police men while under the control of the Purple Man. When she first discovered her powers, Jessica was also able to push over a firmly rooted tree with little effort and later punched straight through the metal hood of a taxi.
Superhuman Durability: Jessica's body and tissues are far more resistant to certain types of injury when compared to an ordinary human, particularly impact forces. After several men pointed guns at her, Jessica implied that shooting her would only ruin her jacket. Afterwards, however, she stated that she did not know if she was bulletproof. Being slashed in the back by a thug with a knife did produce a wound, though a superficial one that only required light bandaging. She was later caught up in a building explosion, which only damaged her clothing. While learning to fly, Jessica would often botch her landings, but her durability was enough to protect her when she smashed into the ground or other objects.
Flight: The first super power that Jessica discovered was the ability to fly. Though her top speed has not been documented, it is likely that it is ultimately subsonic. Jessica states that despite her flying ability, she does get airsick and has a hard time flying in general. As a result, she prefers to keep it to jumping great heights and short distances.
Abilities:
Private Investigator: Jessica is an experienced investigator, she can follow leads, interrogate suspects and has closed many cases. These skills lead her to her next job as an investigative journalist for the The Pulse.
Hand-To-Hand Combat: At first Jessica relied on her powers and her own form a street fighting. Now, she's trained a bit more in hand to hand combat so she isn't quite as clumsy.
Weapons:
Jessica Jones prefers not to use weapons, but will use whatever she can get her hands on if she has to.
What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Before the Purple Man, Jessica was just like everyone else. She was happy and hopeful. So hopeful, in fact, that she was thrilled to be among the costumed super heroes of New York. She was almost cheerful and bubbly, you could say. Unfortunately, that all went away when Zebediah Killgrave got his hands on her.
After his influence, she became hardened, afraid to let her emotions show. She became paranoid that her thoughts weren't her own. That they were leftovers from the Purple Man's grip on her, and that he was still telling her what to think and what to do. She began drinking to numb the anxiety and paranoia, but it only developed a dependency on alcohol. It didn't particularly help.
Now, she barely smiles. She barely does anything that used to bring her joy out of terror that it will lead the Purple Man to her. Her paranoia and PTSD has gripped her so tightly, she looks over her shoulder almost everywhere, even when she should be safe.
History: Jessica grew up as Jessica Campbell, and had a pretty quiet life, all the way up until high school. One week, her father took the family on a trip to a nearby theme park for what might be one of the most tragically eventful weekends of Jessica's life. On the way home Jessica argued with her brother, before the car collided with a military convoy carrying radioactive chemicals. Her family was killed, and she was exposed to the chemicals. After spending several months in a coma, Jessica emerged and was placed in an orphanage, the Moore House for Wayward Children. She was later adopted by Mr. Jones and Mrs. Jones, legally taking their last name. After her recovery, Jessica discovered that she had developed superhuman powers such as strength and durability.
Her new family re-enrolled Jessica at Midtown High to finish her education, where she was ostracized by her classmates, especially the school bully. A young Peter Parker tried to befriend Jessica, feeling she was a kindred spirit as they had both lost family members. Jessica, however, mistook his kind attention and lashed out at him, believing he was merely pitying her. When she ran away she discovered that she could fly, although she lost control and crashed into the Hudson River.
It was later, hearing about the Lady in Red, that she learned she could use her powers for good.
She attempted to become a super heroine, calling herself "Jewel," but did not have much success. While trying out her powers, she accidentally crash-landed on a burglar, who was robbing a laundromat. This was enough to stun him so he could be apprehended. She happened upon a fistfight in a restaurant, and discovered that Zebediah Killgrave aka the Purple Man had told the men to fight. Killgrave then overpowered Jessica's will and told her to "take care of the police" so that he could finish his meal, which she did.
For a year, Killgrave kept Jessica as his thrall, subjecting her to physical and mental humiliation in imagined retaliation for his defeats by other super heroes. She was his toy. He used her as his own personal muscle, his assassin, and his sex doll, all by whispering in her ear.
She escaped when he sent her to kill a costumed hero and ended up attacking the wrong person. She was distraught and sought the help of someone in New York that helped protect people: Artie Cade. She worked with him for the next three years, doing his dirty work in return for protection from Killgrave.
One fateful night, she was out on assignment and she threw a knife into a man. The knife went through his body and into the chest of a child standing behind him. Horrified, she ran back to Cade, desperate for empathy, and she was told to get over it. In a fury, she broke his leg and ran to Gotham.
In Gotham, she works as a private detective at her own firm called Alias Investigations, and sometimes she even still puts on a costume to fight crime as a hero known as Knightress, though she's worried being a hero is only bringing attention to herself. She just can't help it.
