-Genius level intellect: Despite being perceived as insane, the Joker is highly intelligent. -Brilliant chemist: The Joker is able to mix any number of acids and explosive materials, and has on more than one occasion robbed many a laboratory blind of its ingredients.
-Little sense of self-preservation: Never particularly caring if his various sprees and "jokes" will end him as well, it makes the Joker a formidable opponent. If he doesn't care much if he dies to carry the "joke" to the hilt...well that makes for a dangerous psychopath.
-Disguise: The Joker is skilled in theatrical makeup and has been known to disguise himself on a number of occasions.
Weapons:
-Joker gas: Developed using similar principles illustrated on the fronts during the Great War, the Joker has created a toxin in aerosol form which induces risus sardonicus, or a raising of the eyebrows and wide grin. It also induces uncontrollable laughter and, in most cases, eventual death. The Joker has also managed to create this toxin in liquid form as well.
-Firearms: Usually preferring revolver pistols, the Joker carries one with him nearly everywhere he goes. On occasion they are harmless props, other times they might keep you from walking away from the situation.
What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality:
Maniacal, sadistic, aloof, funny, terrifying are all words that come to mind when referring to the Clown Prince of Crime. He holds the trump card to be any one or all of them at the same time in any given situation. He is hyper aware that his presence can be extremely off-putting, and makes no bones about how much he relishes making those around him uncomfortable or flat out afraid. He will go out of his way to make any situation more tense, if only so that he can relax it with a gag or a slice. To the Joker, death is the ultimate punchline. The show is how you go about the killing.
It can also not be denied that the Joker can be charming and charismatic. It's an unusual combination when the man looks like a psychotic clown, but his confidence can be attractive to others. That and what gang banger or mob hustler doesn't want a taste of a bit of sport now and then? It's one thing to commit a crime under someone like Boss Cade in New York, very methodically thought out and executed, and it's another entirely to run rampant through the streets of Gotham only deciding on what the score might be ten minutes beforehand so the stage can be set. Occasionally the Joker's mood leads him to random crime sprees, other times he is very specific about his endgame. Who can say which is which?
History:
The bleached, red-lipped maniac who came to be known as the Joker has a mixed bag of a history. No one is quite sure for certain what his real name is or where he came from, but rumors do spread since peons do talk. Some say that his name was Jack, that he once had a wife and was a failed comedian who fell in with the wrong people. Others claim that he was used to be one of the hitmen for one of the old Families in Gotham before whatever accident caused his disfigurement. Still another says he was the criminal called the Red Hood before a confrontation with the Batman, which resulted in his current condition and madness. But regardless of which of the many stories are true, one thing is certain: you don't want to ask him. The last guy who did was Johnny Fonzino. His fingers were discovered topping his ten year old daughter's birthday cake like candles the following day. But at least it explained why daddy didn't show up to the party.
The Joker never operates with one singular, wrote gang. That is due to many factors, like...death from using them as human meat shields, angry outbursts resulting in a bullet dance, you name it. But one of the biggest things one might notice is that you never meet an ex member of the Joker's gang. You join with him and it's for life, which will most likely be remarkably short. But he pays well and it's a trip, and far outside of the usual racketeering and stickups you get with other gangs around the country. The Joker has made few friends in the criminal community, because most either don't trust him due to his psychotic, unpredictable nature or they simply think clowns are bad for business. They're not entirely wrong on the latter when it comes to the Joker.
