Since this board has a more pulp and noir theme than most comic crossover RPs I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to recommend movies, comics or books that share those themes and settings so that others might enjoy them.
Masks (Dynamite Comics)
A crossover between several pulp heroes. When the newly formed Justice Party replaces the New York police with the thuggish Black Legion, the Green Hornet and Kato team up with the Shadow, Spider, Black Terror and Zorro to fight back.
JSA Liberty Files (DC Comics)
This series reinvents DC heroes as spies in the Second World War and Cold war. Primarily featuring Batman, Hourman and Dr Midnight as the 'Unholy Three' but introducing more heroes and villains as the story goes on. Recently a second series called the Whistling Skull was released featuring a legacy hero who can draw on the memories of his predecessors.
Mystery Men (Marvel)
Cat burglar the Operator has been framed for the murder of a Broadway starlet and teams up with the Revenant and Aviatrix to battle a crime lord known as the General, meanwhile the Surgeon and Achilles search for revenge against the Generals cohorts known as the Board.
Top 10, the 49ers (Americas Best Comics)
After the second world war the superheroes, robots and vampires are moved to the new city of Neopolis. Teen pilot Jetlad and aerial ace Skywitch meet on a train and begin to set up new lives. Meanwhile the Neopolis police have to deal with a new community made up of heroes and villains who let old grudges get in the way of a fresh start.
Sparks (Catastrophe Comics, also adapted as a film)
Sparks, a hero who was disgraced after his defeat by the killer Matanza, staggers into a newspaper office bloody and beaten. Before the editor calls the police Sparks offers him a story on the newest supervillain terrifying the city.
Marvel Noir
Spiderman, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Punisher and X men, each reinvented with a 1930s setting. Baron Stucker seeks the power of Atlantis, Detective Magnus investigates the death of the boy known as Angel, mobsters are being killed by a skull faced gunman from the radio shows and the Bullseye killer is escalating the war between the Irish Mob and Wilson 'Landmark' Fisk.
