The bullets the weapon fires is also specially made to disintegrate after a short while to eliminate any traces of it. While the pistol was designed by Bruce himself, the specialized bullets were designed by his trusted friend and ally, Lucius Fox.
The Bat Man also usually carries a small collection of projectiles, affectionally named, Batarangs by his butler and trusted companion Alfred Pennyworth. Along the the Batarangs are a rope and hook used to scale buildings or to secure his jumps across tall building, and smoke pellets he uses to disorient and distract his enemies. His cowl also contains lenses that allow him to see better at night than he'd be able to without it.
What's hidden behind the mask:
Personality: Some say Bruce Wayne died in 1922 along with his parents and they wouldn't necessarily be wrong. As a child, he was always very adventurous and admired brave heroes but when that child learned of the horrors of the world it changed his ideas about what a hero needs to be. Bruce Wayne, the billionaire, and Bruce Wayne, The Bat Man, are the same individual with two different personalities. The billionaire is one of Gotham's most eligible bachelors and charitable socialite. He's usually seen attending charity events and social gatherings and being the life of the party. He's often seen with a new woman on his arm for every occasion and never seems to wear the same suit twice. This version of Bruce Wayne is a facade he puts on to keep his private life separate from his public one.
The Bat Man is a methodical subdued individual. He doesn't speak often and seems to be constantly thinking. He can seem quite intimidating for this reason and does carry himself in such a way as to justify that. His sense of justice is his strongest quality as he will fight for the innocent at no end. Underneath the brooding and solemn man is a caring person who wants the people of his city to sleep safe at night. He's not adverse to killing criminals, but he considers it a very last option and will always try to subdue and reform his enemies before anything else. This attitude has put him at odds with the law, which disappoints him as he does wish to have a better relationship with the law.
History: Bruce was born December of 1912 in Gotham City. His family, the Waynes had a long history with the city that dated back to it's foundations. He was named after his great-grandfather Solomon Wayne who was a highly revered larger than life judge and business owner in early Gotham City. With his brother, Joshua, Solomon started Wayne Shipping as a shipping corporation and grew into several different lucrative businesses. With the money made from his business, he founded Gotham Town. His son Alan would be the one to grow Gotham Town in Gotham City and the company into Wayne Enterprises. This would establish the Wayne family as a prominent one in Gotham. Bruce's father, Thomas, would eventually open up Gotham General Hospital as a place for the people of Gotham to go for their health care needs. It would be here that he'd meet Bruce's mother, Martha, when she came in complaining about back issues.
Soon after getting married, Bruce was born and he received great care, not only from his parents but from his butler Alfred Pennyworth who had been serving the Waynes since he befriended Alan Wayne years ago. He grew up admiring the heroes he heard about in stories like Tarzan of the Apes, Sherlock Holmes, and most of all the Reverend Doctor Christopher Syn and Zorro from "The Curse of Capistrano". The history of his family had created a legacy that Bruce was expected to follow. The Waynes power in the city had not been challenged since it was founded, but in 1918 the Falcone family immigrated to Gotham where they began to play their roots. When the prohibition went into effect in the 1920's the Falcone family had become smugglers growing an immense wealth through bootlegging alcohol. They would become the most notorious crime family in all of Gotham with power that was beginning to rival that of the Waynes. Sometime in 1921, the Falcones attempt to use the General Hospital as a front for their smuggling operations but are refused by Thomas Wayne. No amount of money or force are able to convince the good doctor to use the hospital for criminal activities.
As the Falcone's organization continues to grow, they begin to have control over several Gotham officials including members of the Gotham City police department. With enough power to manipulate the city, the Falcone's get back at anyone who ever slighted them without any fear of repercussions. Cut to December 1922, the week of Bruce's birthday. Because he has to be at work on the day of Bruce's birthday, he takes him and Martha to see a showing of Bruce's favorite film, Douglass Fairbanks' "The Mask of Zorro" at the only theater still showing the film, the Monarch Theater in Park Row. After the film, the family walks out of the theater and they decide to walk home so Thomas can spend as much time with Bruce as possible. It's outside this theater that Thomas and Martha Wayne are tragically gunned down and robbed by thugs hired by the Falcones. Bruce is shot in the shoulder and left for dead alongside the bodies of his parents.
He would have died there in the snow had his faithful butler, Alfred not been nearby to call for an ambulance to pick him up. When he was released from the hospital, he was horrified to find out that the police had written off his parents murder and were not planning on trying to catch their murderers. This would teach Bruce a hard lesson in how the world worked. Angry and unsatisfied, He took a lesson from his heroes and took matters into his own hands. At age 13, he ran away from home, stowing himself onto a Wayne Enterprise cargo boat headed for Europe. Without much of a plan, he went out to sea in hopes of becoming strong enough and smart enough to do what needed to be done. He would end up in England, where he would study under Scotland Yard and travel all over Europe learning new and innovative crime-stopping methods and sciences. His travels would take him to the east where he began his physical training, learning from several different masters in multiple martial arts. He would learn meditation, how to fight past pain, and how to utilize the shadows with the League of Assassins and decline their offer to work amongst their ranks.
When his training was complete, he was 28 years old going on 29 and had spent most of his life away from his home. He returned to Gotham with a new perspective on life and a new set of skills. Presumed dead, his company had exchanged multiple hands and Gotham had changed for the worst. The corruption had seeped to every level of the city and everyone was aware of it, but was powerless to do anything about it. Bruce knew now was the time he had to bring change to Gotham, more than ever. Confiding in Alfred, he told him of his travels and his plans to bring justice back to Gotham City. Using everything he learned over the past 15 years, he would take it upon himself to bring order back to his home, but first he had to find the murderer of his parents.
Using his detective skills, he was able to track down the man responsible for the tragedy that occurred so many years ago, Joe Chill. He found him where he lived and had planned to murder the man. Having did the dirty work for the Falcone's, Chill had been set up for life and had gotten a family in the time between the murder of Bruce's parents and then. Bruce discovered this as he broke into his home with a mask on and planned to shoot him in his bed. He hesitated as looked at the children's room and began to regret his decision. This hesitation would lead to him being caught by an awoken Joe Chill who would call up his mobster friends, who lived in the same complex, to attack the masked Bruce. Barely managing to escape with his life, Bruce crawled into his estate through a window and sat, bloodied and battered, in his father's chair. Weak and defeated, Bruce called out to his parents to give him a sign, a reason to go on if he couldn't honor their name and bring justice to their murder. Soon after a large bat crashed through Bruce's window, frightening him beyond belief but also giving him the exact sign he had asked for.
It would be this symbol that Bruce would take to combat the crime and corruption plaguing Gotham City. The entire city was in the pocket of the mob and The Bat Man was going to be the remedy to that. Designing his own outfit and weaponry, he took up the mantle of The Bat Man to strike fear into the hearts of the criminals of Gotham. Working closely with his trusted companion Alfred and an ex-employee of his company and family friend, Lucius Fox, he created all of the tools he'd need to effectively take on the criminal underworld. His job has not been simple as he's been forced to deal not only with the mob, but with the Gotham City Police who had declared him a vigilante criminal, as well as a new breed of criminal with wild personalities to match his new brand of justice.
