To say that Viper was completely willing to throw her daughter to the wolves would be an utter lie. As a commander, she needed her soldiers to be at their top condition, to follow orders, and to bring valuable information to HYDRA. Especially now with their power waning in the wake of Doom's empire. As a commander, she wanted to see her best spy recover her title as the best. She even wanted to see her rise in the ranks to perhaps lead her own battalion one day. But, as a mother? She would keep her daughter within the confines of the base if it meant keeping her safe. Everyone here had to make difficult decisions. It just so happened that Viper was making decisions no mother should have to make. Nevertheless, she would never let on, even to her own daughter, that she was this conflicted.
Viper managed a small, satisfied smile and leaned back in her seat, as only a commanding officer could if she was pleased with her soldier. "One of these days, you will learn to control your emotions," she remarked. "It's too much to expect of you overnight, but I do hope to see you learn better control. It just isn't fitting for one of HYDRA's finest spies." The smile on her face, though, indicated that Jessica was still good enough at what she did that she was willing to look past such a major flaw. At least for now.
"If you leave first thing in the morning, that would be ideal. Before you leave, stop in with munitions. They will set you up with appropriate clothing and equipment. Since, of course, you are somewhat of an anomaly now, tell them you have my permission to take whatever weapons you find suitable for this mission. I will send word that you have complete freedom, but they might need to be reminded."
She stood and walked over to the mini bar she had set up in the corner of her office. She rarely used it, except for after meals. Since she was done eating, it was time for a drink. "I have been hoping to send you into the field for quite some time," she admitted. "Finding the right time, however, was proving difficult. I think you're ready, and I think this weapons drop is the perfect chance for you to prove it."
